Common failure of camshaft
Common failures of the camshaft include abnormal wear, abnormal sound, and breakage, and abnormal wear and abnormal wear often occur before abnormal sound and breakage occurs.
(1) The camshaft is almost at the end of the engine lubrication system, so the lubrication condition is not optimistic. If the oil pump has insufficient supply pressure due to a long use time, or if the lubricating oil channel is blocked, the lubricating oil cannot reach the camshaft, or the tightening torque of the bearing cap tightening bolt causes the lubricating oil to fail to enter the camshaft clearance. Causes abnormal wear of the camshaft.
(2) Abnormal wear of the camshaft will cause an increase in the clearance between the camshaft and the bearing housing, and an axial displacement will occur when the camshaft moves, resulting in abnormal noise. Abnormal wear also results in an increase in the clearance between the drive cam and the hydraulic tappet. When the cam is combined with the hydraulic tappet, an impact occurs and an abnormal sound is generated.
(3) The camshaft sometimes has serious failures such as breakage. Common causes include cracked or severely worn hydraulic tappets, severe poor lubrication, poor camshaft quality, and camshaft timing gear breakage.
(4) In some cases, the failure of the camshaft is caused by human factors. In particular, when the engine is repaired, the camshaft is not properly disassembled. For example, when a camshaft bearing cap is disassembled, a hammer is used to strike it with a hammer, or a screwdriver is used to press it, or when the bearing cap is installed, the position is wrongly installed and the bearing cap is not matched with the bearing seat, or the tightening torque of the bearing cap fastening bolt is too large. When installing the bearing cap, pay attention to the direction arrow and position number mark on the surface of the bearing cap, and use the torque wrench to tighten the bearing cap fastening bolt in strict accordance with the specified torque.
